Chairs and Ceramics

Mel Hayton is an emerging artist from Brisbane. 
After completing a BA (Hons) Opera Studies from Manchester University in 2004 Mel transferred her passion for opera to a passion for visual art.

With primary focus on contemporary oil painting, she has a passion for vibrant colours in still life, figurative works, and interior paintings.

She describes her work as maximalist colourist expressionism.
Mel aspires to create emotion and challenge the viewer’s thinking.
Mel has been in many group exhibitions across Australia and has had five solo exhibitions since 2019.

She has won several art prizes and been commended and a finalist in many. Her works are held in private, public and corporate collections across Australia, USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.
This work was inspired by beautiful works created by female ceramicists and the beautiful form of chairs.
