Native Wings, Season of Gold

I am a Brisbane-based artist who has lived in Brisbane for over 30 years. I hold a Bachelor’s fine art degree from QCA and have participated in various exhibitions and art events. Since 2018, I have also run my own private art studio, teaching art for the past eight years.

In this painting, four Australian native birds - a Raven Crimson Rosella, Kookaburra, and Magpie are placed in the foreground, with sunflowers softly unfolding behind them. Each sunflower is at a different stage of life, reflecting the natural cycle of blooming, fading, and letting go.

The golden palette carries the mood from the chill of winter into the gentle warmth of summer. Behind the Raven, a beam of light breaks through, illuminating the scene and adding a quiet glow to the season. Birds, clouds, flowers, and the imagined scent of summer come together in a moment I want to hold in my memory.

To me, life is like a flower: there is a season to bloom beautifully, and a time to fade. Life is a journey, and being alive is about embracing each moment as it comes.

Through this painting, I seek to capture the beauty of a fleeting summer moment—a moment of light, nature, and quiet presence—and to remind us to cherish what is here, before it passes.
