I am a North Brisbane-based artist with over fourteen years of experience exploring and refining my artistic practice. Throughout this journey, I continue to learn and expand my skills by sharing knowledge and techniques with fellow local artists. While I still consider myself an emerging artist, my practice has evolved into a distinctive style that continues to explore mood, colour, texture and my emotional connection to place and the natural world.
Sunlight Beneath the Surface is a mixed media artwork capturing the peaceful beauty of a turtle swimming through the depths of the ocean; surrounded by swirling currents, delicate bubbles and the mesmerising refraction of sunlight filtering through the water. At the heart of the piece is the sun’s radiant presence, its light penetrating the ocean’s surface creating luminous colour and patterns within the underwater world. These shifting beams of light bring warmth, movement and a sense of wonder to the deep-sea environment.
A palette of green and blue acrylic hues produces a background that creates depth and atmosphere while the combination of mixed media materials and techniques combine to create an expressive, tactile surface. The turtle moves gracefully through this layered world, with bubbles rising around it as it journeys through its aquatic home. Contrasts between textured surfaces and passages of colour evoke the interplay of light and shadow beneath the waves.
Through this work I invite the viewer to pause and appreciate the quiet magic of the underwater world; celebrating the relationship between sunlight, water and marine life.
