My artwork depicts a pond filled with lily pads, a mother bird nesting on a broken branch rising from the water. I was drawn to this scene because it represents both fragility and resilience in nature. The broken branch suggests hardship, change, and the passing of time, yet it continues to provide shelter and safety for the bird. To me, this reflects the ability to find hope and belonging even in uncertain circumstances.
The pond and the floating lily pads create a peaceful atmosphere, encouraging reflection and calm. I am inspired by the quiet beauty found in natural places around Brisbane, especially the wetlands and waterways where birds, water, and plant life exist together in delicate balance. Observing these moments reminds me of the importance of rest, healing, and connection to the environment.
Through this painting, I wanted to capture more than a landscape; I wanted to express an emotional state. The bird nesting in the centre of the pond becomes a symbol of protection, endurance, and new life surrounded by uncertainty. The water reflects both calmness and depth, while the lily pads suggest growth and renewal.
I carefully observe details, light, and texture to create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and contemplative. This work is very personal to me because it reflects my own feelings about vulnerability, strength, and finding peace within nature. Through this work I hope viewers can pause, reflect, and perhaps find their own connection to Brisbane and with the emotional story within the scene.
