Being inquisitive about how everything works or is made from the beginning; asking “Why”; Betty's growth as an artist follows the curiosity of ""How can that be illustrated""; ""what has to be done to achieve that""; ""what next?"". It’s a life of living in wonderland.
Beginning using oils and painting landscapes, there came a time of bright acrylic that gave an edge for speed:  More landscapes and waterways.

There came a watercolour stage after joining a country art group at Mt Beppo. Lovely Sue Howard sharing techniques and how to manipulate the medium. - like magic; so peaceful; such fun. Pastels or pencils have a technique that’s yet to be achieved. They need patience.

Later, viewing the European Masters with their depth and warmth, ignited a challenge. Using the Van Eyke method from the 15th Century the return to oils was warm and rewarding. A layer of rich gold colour as the under colour to glow through. Techniques of colour and glazing translucent hues. Still Life lessons from youth helped create a welcoming scene. The fruit carefully chosen and Mother’s old glassware added to create an “Old Master” style. The rich dark background with colour intruding balance and complement the fruit. The Patina of the reused wooden frame matured through time where gold became flecks, is used to enhance remenicence of past and the warm of times forgotten.
