Bet Williams is an active member of the art community in the Somerset Region, painting, exhibiting and as assistant curator at Glen Rock Gallery. She enjoys telling a story, which is reflected in her art practice in both traditional and contemporary work.
Bet's "story" paintings are passionate, whimsical or sometimes fantastical, carefully choosing colours and textures to evoke an emotional response, or connection, in the viewer.

The Rock Star teeters on the brink of reality yet flickering into abstract. The use of bright white lights and pink hues evokes happiness; relaxed bliss. Juxtaposed, saturated colours of dark purple hues, arouse a negative response; a concern for the form being engulfed by strong emotions; of pride and power- consuming; of love yet sadness; of pride, but also fear. Lines of bright aqua jar - suggesting rigging. The gestural marks of the brushwork slashing at the colours across the canvas, enhance the tension. The scene becomes surreal. Shapes are warped and disappearing in the dark spaces, while the lights cast white shapes almost randomly. The artist's purpose is to illustrate how strong, out of balance emotions create an abyss of swirling darkness where YOU don't exist: just the abstract.

Fourth verse of related prose:
"The lights become stronger, thicker, darker and engulf the Star.
His self diminishes. He is the Star; the Rock for the Band.
His essence flows towards an abyss -
he is swallowed - he has faded away.
He is gone.
He was the Rock for the band.
