The light is just making its way through the dense mangrove roots to illuminate both the water teaming with life and the rich red of the mud. Redland Bay forms part of the Ramsar Convention of Protected Wetlands and these mangroves are magical, they provide habitat for fish, protect the coastline from erosion, the ocean from run off and sequester huge amounts of carbon.

This early morning walk along the costal path at Redland bay is just one of many memories formed from walking and painting en plein air in the special places of Moreton Bay. From Manly to North Stradbroke Island, experiences formed in this landscape have provided the visual language and colours that have informed many of my recent works.
