Painting and creating has been a part of my life since childhood. I believe my work is influenced by my Norwegian heritage and many years spent living in Iceland. I started my artistic journey in the 1960 attending the Icelandic Collage of Art and Crafts, majoring in weaving and textiles.
While raising a family and immigrating to Australia, I had less time for art. Gaining more time, I completed a Certificate in Printmaking at Queensland Collage of Art. In the later years I have engaged in plein air oil-painting, with emphasis on the Australian landscape around me. I have had e few solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions, in Australia, Iceland and Taiwan.
For this artwork I have chosen to draw on memories from Iceland, in particular the long light summer nights, that seems to go on forever. I am attempting to create the stillness of the summer night, using simple colour and shapes, with the wide vista of open uninterrupted landscape.
